GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERFORMING RADON GAS TESTS (Short-term)

Performing the Test:

TO BEGIN THE TEST

After determining a suitable location, following these steps:

  1. To begin exposure, remove the vinyl tape from the canister & remove the lid (opened). Put the lid on the bottom of the canister & replace the tape around the circumference of the canister. Place the canisters on a hard surface with open side up.
  2. If you are performing a double test, place the second canister approximately 4" from the first.
  3. Record the canister serial #, floor level, and room name, as well as the date & time canister/s were opened.
  4. Allow the canister/s to be exposed for NO LESS THAN 48 hours & NO MORE THAN 96 hours.

TO END THE TEST

  1. Once the exposure time has ended, remove the vinyl tape from canister & remove the lid. Replace the lid in it’s original position (closed) covering the canister . Replace the vinyl tape around the canister’s circumference to seal the canister. If the vinyl tape is missing, you may use electrical tape. Be sure to make the tape long enough to wrap around the canister one and one- half times. If the canister/s are not re-taped the test results will be non-certified.
  2. Record the date & time the canister/s were closed on the Information Form & on this page in the area below. Be sure to circle AM or PM, as well as record the actual time in hours & minutes (i.e. 9:24 PM) on the form.
